Motherwell Cricket Club

Development

The YCA sent coaches to assist struggling Super League club, Motherwell, which is situated in the Township with the same name twice a week for two seasons. They were boosted up several leagues and as a result, were left gasping for air, way out of their depth. Aberdare Cables and the YCA saw this as an area they could help, as Aberdare Cricket Club, as it was known at the time, was involved in the same league as the struggling Motherwell, so what was needed was obviously displayed. They needed a coach who had played Super League cricket, and could teach them how the game was played at this level, not only with the talent, and skill, but also with the mind and tactics as well. This much-needed expertise saw Motherwell defeat one of the long standing Super League clubs to register its first win in the top league, and with out doubt, was credit to the efforts of the coaches and the YCA. As a result of the funds made available to the YCA from Aberdare Cables, enabling the YCA to send two coaches to Motherwell twice a week, Motherwell is now a force to be taken seriously in the Super League ending in the middle of the league standings at the end of the 2007/2008 season.
